Situation
GBI was hired to perform all the site work improvements to support the wind turbine installation.
Solution
GBI built new entrances on the highway for turbine deliveries, graded for a substation, and stripped the string roads and turbine sites of topsoil. This work was followed by the construction of 21 miles of string roads, composed of 150,000 tons of aggregate. GBI also designed all road grades and turbine pad grades. At the completion of the project, topsoil was restored on all disturbed areas.
Notable
Because the 21 miles of electrical trenching ran through mostly rocky areas, drilling and blasting could be very expensive and lead to cost overruns. GBI designed and fabricated special digging buckets that reduced the amount of drilling and shooting by 25%. The specialized buckets also enabled us to dig an exact trench width that reduced the amount of bedding waste.
