Situation
The 354,000 square foot ilani Casino Resort markets itself as the premier destination for gaming, entertainment, retail, and dining in the Pacific Northwest, with an expected 4.5 million visitors annually. It is located 25 miles north of downtown Portland.
Solution
GBI completed all the site work on this 152-acre development including infrastructure, utilities, grading, and paving. This included 400,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 50,000 feet of underground utilities, and more than 15,000 linear feet of new roads and freeway ramps.
Additionally, GBI was responsible for the removal and replacement of the La Center interchange over Interstate 5. Normally a 14-month project, the Cowlitz Indian Tribe wanted it completed in nine months to meet their April deadline for opening. GBI was up for the challenge and assembled day and night crews working six days a week.
Notable
An unusually wet winter threatened to derail the project, but GBI was prepared to coordinate and install concrete with wet and cold weather protections. “Without GBI out here, managing and pushing, this would have never been possible,” said Cameron Coleman, Swinerton Project Manager. “According to WSDOT, this has been the fastest state overpass ever built. The attention every single GBI person gave to this project was incredible.”
