Situation
Since 1959, the Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, Washington, has provided residential support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Today, the campus serves more than 200 residents and operates at full capacity. Many of the existing buildings are aging, and residents often live in dormitory-style accommodations that offer limited privacy, highlighting the need for modernized facilities.
The new Nursing Facility project will expand the campus by creating housing for an additional 120 residents and constructing a new laundry facility to better support both residents and staff. These improvements will enhance quality of life, improve operational efficiency, and help ensure Fircrest can continue delivering exceptional care for years to come.
Solution
Goodfellow Bros. is providing comprehensive site development services for the project, including demolition of the existing nursing building, site clearing, frontage improvements, and structural excavation for the new facilities.
Following demolition, the team processed and disposed of more than 40,000 cubic yards of material and imported approximately 20,000 cubic yards of fill to prepare the site for construction. Additional scope includes the installation of more than 11,000 linear feet of underground wet utilities and five underground detention R-Tank vaults with storage capacities ranging from 4,068 to 46,914 cubic feet. Throughout construction, Goodfellow Bros. has coordinated closely with project partners and subcontractors to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient jobsite.

The new facilities are being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and meet Net Zero–capable energy standards. The campus layout prioritizes operational efficiency, optimized staffing, and enhanced living environments, creating a more comfortable and supportive experience for residents.
