Situation
Located on a 10-acre site in the heart of Downtown Sandy, Cedar Park transformed the former athletic fields of the old Cedar Ridge Middle School and the original Sandy Skate Park into a vibrant community destination. Envisioned as a cornerstone legacy project for the City of Sandy, the park was designed to serve as a central gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
The multi-use park features inclusive recreational amenities including a playground, bike jump line, pump track, skate park, walking paths, and connections to the region’s larger trail network. The project also includes Base Camp Action Sports Park, recognized as the Pacific Northwest’s only combined hard-surfaced pump track and skatepark, creating a unique year-round destination for skateboarding, BMX, and other action sports.
Solution
GBI served as the General Contractor for the Cedar Park development, overseeing all phases of construction and coordinating a diverse team of subcontractors and specialty contractors throughout the project. GBI self-performed the site grading and underground utility installation while also managing close coordination with the Action Sports contractor responsible for the skate park, jump line, and pump track elements integrated within the project footprint.
The completed park includes a variety of family-friendly and recreational amenities such as a zip line, climbing features, shelters, open space areas, and a ¼-mile concrete walking loop that connects Cedar Park to Sandy River Park and the Sandy River corridor.
Notable
Cedar Park has quickly become a premier recreational destination within the region and was recognized as a “Top Project” by DJC Oregon for its innovative design, community impact, and unique action sports features.
As a testament to the strong partnership developed between GBI and the City of Sandy throughout construction, the City dedicated the park’s quarter-mile walking loop to GBI, officially naming it “The Goodfellow Way Trail.”
