Situation
The Cedar Hills Park project was one of the last that stemmed from a 2008 bond measure to provide funding for parks around Portland. Located near Beaverton, the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District was eager to finally—after nine long years of planning and design—see the park completed quickly for the community to enjoy immediately and in the years to come.
Solution
GBI went right to work, flattening the ground to create a 130,000 square foot multi-purpose synthetic turf field with lights, two volleyball courts, a 3,500 square foot splash pad, and 48 community garden planter beds. Additionally, GBI contributed to the construction of two large restroom buildings, three bocce ball courts, a tennis/futsal court, a playground, and parking areas.
Notable
The project had an array of unique components and challenges, including working around existing trees, coordinating directly with more than 20 subcontractors, and sharing the same project footprint with different contractors overseeing other projects.
