Situation
Bickford Ranch is a master-planned community nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Once complete, it will feature 1,890 homes, public facilities, parks, and open space within a nearly 2,000-acre plan area. Bickford Ranch was once a working cattle ranch owned by its namesake, John Herbert Bickford, who went into the livestock and dairy business in 1896. His descendants continued to own and manage Bickford Ranch until it was sold in the early 1980s. The ranch changed hands over the years until LV Bickford Ranch LLC acquired the property in 2012 with plans to eventually develop the Bickford Ranch community. The rough grade plans were approved in June of 2021 and GBI’s California Region started grading work immediately thereafter.
Solution
GBI’s scope of work for the first phase of this project included 1.2 million cubic yards of earthwork. GBI completed the grading for 368 pads and 9.5 acres of super pads, placed 68,300 tons of aggregate base and 27,100 tons of asphalt concrete, and widened Sierra College Boulevard. Additionally, GBI has been managing eight subcontractor projects, including the installation of 14,800 linear feet of sewer pipe; the installation of joint trench, underground utilities, waterline, a tank, and a pump station; and the construction of 27 rockery walls, seven Basalite walls, and a canal bypass. GBI completed the first phase of the project in April of 2022 and is now preparing for the second phase, which includes 1.5 million cubic yards of earthwork.
