Our Oahu Region made a “Make-A-Wish” dream come true for young patient, Jazdan Yahiku-Young, after having surgery to remove a baseball-sized brain tumor last spring. Following her surgery, Jazdan, a 16-year-old from Kapolei, was expected to live out the rest of her life in a vegetative state but she has defied all medical assumptions and has re-learned how to do most everything -from holding a fork to speaking and walking. Jazdan continues to overcome incredible challenges with a wonderfully positive “can-do” attitude!
Jazdan wanted a backyard chill space where she can work out, do her rehab, and hang out with family and friends. Along with JNY Design, Walters Kimura Motoda, Inc.; WDI Companies, Inc.; Takano Nakamura Landscaping, the Make-A Wish staff; and FF&E donations from Home Depot, Orbit Sales, Island Design Materials, Janus et Cie, and CS Wo, GBI transformed the backyard into a space where she and her family can relax and enjoy.
Activities Jazdan hopes to do in her new space:
- Rehabilitation
- Star gazing with her cousins
- Gathering around a fire pit
- Having BBQ’s
- Play Lawn Games
- Take selfies with her peeps
Special thank you to Cayenne of Alaka’I Development for coordinating the different teams and managing the schedule. Thank you also for reaching out to GBI for the masonry work and letting us be a part of making Jazdan’s wish for a backyard chill space come true!
