On Sept.14, 2019, six members from the Kauai Region participated in the sixth annual Ultimate Hawaiian Trail Run. The yearly event raises funds for the Keala Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating the devastation of drug and alcohol addiction in Hawai‘i. Funds raised by the Ultimate Hawaiian Trail Run help the Keala Foundation provide free programs to children in Poipu, Kekaha, and Anahola. The event grows in popularity every year, with more than 1,000 participants in 2019.
This event, also known as the “Race with Purpose,” challenges participants in 5K, 5K team, and 10K events. Participants race through the mountains, slide down mud pits and steep hills, and race through dense jungle. The Kaua‘i Region participated in the 5K team race; the team had to carry three 40-pound sandbags to the finish line.
By supporting the race (and having fun) GBI helped build a brighter future for the youth of Hawai‘i. The Kaua‘i Region continues to support the communities in which we live and work.
