On October 12th, GBI’s GoodDeeds team had the privilege of participating in the Maui Ohana Resource Fair at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka’anapali. The Westin has graciously hosted numerous families who were displaced due to the Maui wildfires, providing a safe haven during their difficult times.
The resource fair, organized jointly by the Department of Education and the Department of Health, was a collaborative effort involving various state agencies and community organizations. It was a remarkable show of support for the affected families, showcasing the unity within the community.
For the GBI GoodDeeds team, this event marked a significant milestone as it was the first time that all our Hawaii operations came together for a charitable cause. Our collective effort was focused on collecting 500 backpacks filled with art supplies and sensory toys. These items were chosen with great care to support the emotional well-being of Maui’s keiki (children).
The GBI Maui Region provided much-needed support with the pickup and distribution of materials. Our corporate office in Wenatchee, WA, also pitched in with beautiful hand-stitched quilts donated by the North Central Washington Quilt Guild, graciously shipped to The Westin on Maui with the help of the Hawaiian Airlines Malama Maui program.
The event was a reminder of the strength of a community and the capacity for kindness to shine through, even during challenging times. Together we are Maui Strong!
