GBI receives Mike Lyons Memorial “Palaka” Award for Philanthropy

GBI was honored for its philanthropic contributions on Maui County (which consists of Maui, Moloka‘i, and Lāna‘i) at the14th annual Mike Lyons Memorial Palaka Awards ceremony on Aug. 16, 2019.

Over the years, GBI has supported a number of worthy causes, including nonprofit organizations, local schools, the Maui Police Department, and events at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College.

GBI received the Spirit of Philanthropy Service Award for upholding the highest ideals of philanthropy and for its significant and enduring contributions to nonprofit organizations in Maui County.

The Mike Lyons Memorial Palaka Award was established in recognition of the late Mike Lyons, who was a member of the Rotary Club of Kahului and a prominent figure in the community. The annual award was named for Lyons’ signature “palaka” shirts and recognizes community members who demonstrate a commitment to helping others by volunteering their time, talent, and energy.

GBI has been on Maui for nearly five decades and will continue to help the community in every way possible in the years to come.
