This was a special year for the Goodfellow Bros. 2022 scholarship program. Facilitated by our partner, the Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF), a total of $61,000 was distributed to nine high school and college students in support of their educational endeavors.
For the Goodfellow Bros. High School Scholarship, a program designed to help Goodfellow Bros. families pay for private high school education in Hawaii, the committee selected two exceptional students for awards. William CK Judge, a sophomore at Seabury Hall College Preparatory School, was given a $22,000 scholarship and Parker School junior Charlotte Sommerhoff’s scholarship was renewed with an award of $18,000.
College students were also among the program’s top honors list. For the Goodfellow Bros. Education Scholarship, the committee awarded two students, Kylee Yamashita and Shaian Garana, each $5,000 scholarships, and renewed Sofia Salvatierra’s scholarship for an additional $5,000. Kylee will be pursuing a graduate degree in optometry at Pacific University, and Shaian will be a freshman pursuing nursing at Washington State University. Sofia will continue her studies as a junior at the University of Hawai’i–West Oahu as an accounting major.
This year’s awards program also included a new scholarship, the Clifford Cox, Sr. Scholarship. Established in 2022, this new program pays tribute to Clifford Cox, Sr., a beloved Goodfellow Bros. employee and resident of Hawai’i Island. For its inaugural year, the committee included one Goodfellow Bros. representative and two HCF staff members. In honor of Cox, the committee sought candidates from Hawaii Island pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences, with a priority for students with the highest need.
The four scholarship recipients selected include:
- Leonard Garlitos, Freshman, Hawaii Community College, Construction Management – $2,000
- Erica Tabilin, Freshman, Hawaii Community College, Culinary Arts – $1,000
- Liana Urbanozo, Sophomore, Hawaii Community College, Accounting – $2,000
- Gabriel Victor, Freshman, Hawaii Community College, Civil Engineering – $1,000
“Congratulations to all the recipients of this year’s Goodfellow Bros. and Clifford Cox scholarship awards,” said Ed Brown, Hawaii Division President. “We hope that these scholarships help each student’s continued educational journey and look forward to hearing about their future endeavors.”
